Use a Camcorder For Movie Making

The basic method:

(1) Use your camcorder to film the action.

(2) Transfer the image to your Computer.

(3) Edit and burn onto a DVD.

Let's first of all look at conventional ways to make money with your camcorder:

Advertisements in local newspapers can lead to engagements at all of the following:

(1) Weddings.

You can also contact churches and registrar's offices to see if they can either advertise your services for you or perhaps let you know when a wedding is to take place.

How to take the film.

If you can call on the help of an assistant to use a second camcorder, you can make a really effective and impressive final product. I'm sure you can think of all sorts of ways to film a wedding, but with two people filming using separate cameras, you can achieve fantastic results.

Before the wedding, one camera follows the Bride, while the other follows the Groom. Then during the ceremony and at the reception, both cameras can be used to film different areas simultaneously. A remarkable film can be made up of all the different things going on.

(2) Sports.

Contact local football, rugby, athletics and hockey clubs, etc. to see when their home games are on and ask to advertise your services. Here again, the use of two (or more!) camcorders and some imagination can give you scope to edit all recordings into an amazing final film.

(3) Shows and plays.

Contact local amateur dramatic societies and school Parent/Teacher associations to explain your services. A particularly professional looking result can be achieved by again using two different camcorders. The end result, after editing, looks as though maybe three cameras have been used and is truly impressive.

To achieve this effect, use one camera fixed on wide-angle and using 'spotlight' mode. The other camera can be moved around according to the action on stage in the usual way. Sound can be recorded using mikes near to the stage and the whole can be edited to give a very polished production. Do this and you will never lack engagements! In fact you may not have time to try any of the other suggestions here!

Other ways to use your camcorder for profit:

(1) I know of some people who simply make 'How to do..' movies.

Start off by making a demonstration movie of yourself and some friends or family doing something that you're good at. If you or they have something they can do well, make a film of it and somebody will want to learn how to do it too. You could sell it on eBay to gauge the response.

Hone it and refine it so it shows, not only the instructions off in the best light, but of course the film itself. Try and think of unusual angles both camera and subject wise to make your movie stand out from the crowd. Anyone can make a movie by simply pointing and pressing a button. But you want to do more than that. Use your creativity and see the orders flooding in.

Use your demo-movie to sell your skills to other people who have special skills and offer to make a movie of them showing off their skills. Agree on how any profits are distributed, type out two copies of the agreement and each party should sign both copies. Then you're in business!

(2) You could use your software and editing skills to offer an editing service.

Many people own a camcorder, but don't know the first thing about editing their films and don't want to buy any software to help them. A simple advert in the local paper could bring some work. Then word of mouth as people show off the results of your work to their relatives, friends and neighbours, should bring in more work.

Keep filming and watch your income double week after week.
