Amy Winehouse left trove of unreleased music (AP)
LONDON ? Amy Winehouse left a trove of unreleased music, but no decision has been made about whether it will be released, people close to the singer say.
The soul diva, who had struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, was found dead of unknown causes at her London home on Saturday. She was 27.
Spokesman Chris Goodman said Thursday that Winehouse left behind "plenty" of material, but there have been no discussions yet about releasing anything.
It's not clear how finished the tracks are. Winehouse released only two albums in her lifetime, but had been in the studio sporadically over the past few years. In July 2010 she said a new album would appear within six months, but it was never finished.
The Guardian newspaper on Thursday quoted an unnamed spokesman at record label Universal as saying Winehouse had left the "framework" of about a dozen songs.
Producer Salaam Remi, who worked on both Winehouse albums ? "Frank" and "Back to Black" ? and was involved with her new material, told New York's Power 105.1 radio station that there were not large amounts of finished material, and Winehouse's estate had yet to approve the release of anything.
"We had a lot of things going, there are recordings, but first things first, I think," he said. "We're trying to focus on what's at hand and what her family wants to do."
There would certainly be an appetite for new material.
Sales of Winehouse's music have soared since her death. In the U.S., digital sales of her tracks have risen by 2,000 percent in the past week, according to Nielsen Soundscan, and "Back to Black" is set to re-enter the Billboard album chart at No. 9.
Britain's Official Charts Company said it looks like Winehouse will have seven songs in this week's top 40, which is announced Sunday.
Music critic John Aizlewood said posthumous releases can help cement an artist's legacy ? or, if mishandled, do the opposite.
"The record company is there to tend the musical legacy," he said. "If they put out something that is obviously substandard, it will negate that legacy."
He cited the example of Jeff Buckley, who drowned in 1997 having released just one album, the highly praised "Grace."
"Since he's died he's put an awful lot of stuff out," Aizlewood said. "I don't think it's particularly enhanced his standing. It was the same with Jimi Hendrix ? once he died, he really started releasing records. And most of them were appalling.
"It's such a dangerous area to start finishing unfinished music."
One track that should see the light of day is a version of pop standard "Body and Soul" that Winehouse recorded in March with Tony Bennett for a forthcoming duets album.

After leak, Amnesty's website blocked in Saudi (AP)
CAIRO ? Amnesty International said Saudi authorities on Monday blocked the group's website inside the kingdom following criticism of a controversial new anti-terrorism draft law.
The London-based group said the bill, which was reviewed by a Saudi government committee in June and has yet to be passed, allows authorities to prosecute peaceful dissent as a terrorist crime.
Amnesty on Friday posted on its website the full Arabic text of the anti-terrorism draft law along with an internal review of the law by a Saudi security committee.
Hours after the website was blocked Monday, Amnesty moved the text of the bill to another Amnesty-administered website called "Protect The Human Blog", which could be accessed by residents in the kingdom.
"Although the Saudi authorities have blocked our main international site, they haven't yet blocked any Amnesty U.K. site, as far as we know. So we're hosting the Arabic version of the release for all to see," the group said in an online statement.
Although Saudi Arabia has not seen the kind of unrest that has gripped the Middle East, it has taken steps to prevent pro-democracy protests from spilling over into the oil-rich kingdom.
Amnesty did not say how it obtained the draft bill, which labels offenses such as harming the reputation of the state and endangering national unity as terrorist crimes. Such language is typically used to prosecute political opponents of the Saudi monarchy, which has minimal tolerance for dissent and bans political activity.
The law, if passed, would carry harsh punishments, including a minimum prison sentence of 10 years for challenging the integrity of the king, Amnesty said.
On Saturday, Saudi Arabia released a statement dismissing Amnesty's criticism and saying the bill is meant to assist security forces in tackling terrorist activity.
The government called Amnesty's concerns "baseless," "mere supposition" and "completely without foundation."
"Regional unrest provides a breeding ground for new threats," said the statement, adding that policies that prevent al-Qaida from taking root in the kingdom are necessary.
Saudi authorities are particularly wary of attempts by the country's minority Shiite residents to emulate Bahrain's protests. Revolts in Tunisia and Egypt inspired a handful of Shiite-led protests in eastern Saudi Arabia earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Riyadh sent troops to help the Sunni rulers in Bahrain quell the revolt by the nation's Shiite majority, demanding a greater say in politics and more rights.

JAKARTA, Indonesia ? Hollywood blockbusters will soon return to Indonesian screens, with the final "Harry Potter" film leading the way to end a five-month drought caused by a standoff over the country's tax on imported movies, an official said Monday.
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ? Part 2" is being imported by a newly established local company and will be released before Ramadan, the Islamic fasting month that begins Aug. 1, said Djonny Sjafruddin, head of the Indonesian Cinema Companies Union. He declined to give an exact release date.
"All things such as censorship and subtitles have already been finished," Sjafruddin said. "We need some 90 copies and they are now under process."
He added that "Transformers 3" and "Kung Fu Panda 2" would also be released during the next several weeks.
The announcment signals relief for moviegoers forced for months to make do with local productions and second-tier foreign releases because of the protracted dispute between studios, film importers and the government.
In February, six major Hollywood studios withdrew films from Indonesia, a Muslim-majority nation of 237 million people, in opposition to a new levy on imported movies that was meant to protect local filmmakers.
Last month the government announced a revised tax it said would bring back Hollywood movies, but their return had been blocked by another dispute.
Indonesia's largest film distributors remain banned from bringing in new films, pending their payment of more than $30 million in unpaid taxes and related penalties. The film importers are challenging that in court.

Cadel Evans claims historic Tour de France title (AP)
PARIS ? Cadel Evan's history-making Tour de France victory is as much a testament to patience as it is to endurance.
At 34, the soft-spoken Australian rider put aside the disappointment of two runner-up finishes to finally stand atop the podium on the Champs Elysees on Sunday as champion of cycling's great race.
In a meticulous race, run with a strategy of almost military precision, Evans won only the fourth of 21 stages on this year's Tour, but always remained within striking distance.
It was only on the last competitive leg ? the individual time trial ? that Evans claimed his first leader's Yellow Jersey from nearest rival Andy Schleck and the ultimate prize after 20 years of cycling.
Wrapped in the national flag and with tears in his eyes, Evans listened as French-based Australian singer Tina Arena sang their national anthem after he became the first Australian, the oldest rider since World War II, and the first man outside Europe or the United States to win the most prestigious race in cycling.
"I couldn't be any happier. A few people always believed in me. I always believed in me. And we did it," Evans said.
He celebrated after crossing the finish line in the pack on the Champs-Elysee, embracing riders from different teams as the massive crowd on France's most famous thoroughfare cheered wildly.
Evans bounded up the steps onto the podium, taking deep breaths, then appeared at the top looking calm and waved the bouquet he received in the air.
"Thank you to everyone. It's really incredible," he told the crowd.
Evans was joined on the podium by the Schleck brothers of Luxembourg ? Andy, who finished second overall for the third straight year, and Frank. Andy finished 1 minute, 34 seconds behind Evans in the final standings.
Evans' Italian wife, Chiara, stood at his side after the presentation ceremony.
"I think he's worked very hard," she said.
Evans is the third non-European to win the Tour since it started in 1903. Greg LeMond broke the European dominance in 1986 with the first of his three wins, and fellow American Lance Armstrong won seven straight starting in 1999.
It's been a long wait for Evans, who first showed himself as a challenger for major races in 2002, and finished second in the Tour in 2007 and 2008.
Evans is the oldest winner of the Tour's postwar period, narrowly eclipsing Gino Bartali of Italy ? who was also 34 but slightly younger when he won in 1948. The age record was set by 36-year-old Firmin Lambot of Belgium in 1922.
"Cadel was the best of the Tour and he deserved to win," said 26-year-old Andy Schleck. "Second isn't bad, and my brother was on the podium, too. I'll be back to win this Tour. We have a date for next year."
This year was a far cry from the Tours of many recent years that were dominated almost from the start by Armstrong or, later, Alberto Contador. This was a race that defied predictions and was still hanging in the balance on the final weekend.
Evans rarely made his presence obvious, but he was always there. Up every mountain he was never more than one bicycle length behind his rivals. He knew he didn't need to attack to win.
Still, when Andy Schleck broke away from the field on the climb of the Galibier pass on Thursday, observers thought Evans' BMC team had made a critical mistake. But Evans remained calm.
He went into Saturday's time-trial needing to make up almost a minute on Schleck; he did much better than that, finishing that stage more than 2 1/2 minutes quicker than Schleck.
"The real highlight was the last three to four kilometers of the time trial (Saturday) because I knew we were on the right track," Evans said.
Sunday's 21st and final stage ? the most prestigious for the race's sprinters ? was won by Britain's Mark Cavendish for the third year in a row, despite being forced to change his bike on the Champs-Elysees. He also took the green jersey for the overall best sprinter.
Cavendish crossed the line holding out the green jersey he was wearing, and then kissed it. Despite his 20 Tour stage victories, the jersey had eluded him until now.
"Finally!" he said.
Second place in the stage went to Edvald Boasson Hagen of Norway. Andre Greipel of Germany was third.
The polka-dot jersey awarded to the best climber went to Olympic champion Samuel Sanchez of Spain, who brought his two children onto the podium with him. The best young rider was Pierre Rolland of France, who won the classic climb up the Alpe d'Huez on Friday.
Before setting off on Sunday, riders removed their helmets and observed a minute of silence in tribute to the victims of the attacks in Norway on Friday.
"When this kind of thing happens, everybody forgets about the sport," Norwegian rider Thor Hushovd said. "It's not even important in comparison.
"It's quite nice that everybody thinks of us. We're a small country ... unfortunately this can happen anywhere."
Hushovd and Boasson Hagen won two stages each in this year's race.

News Corp. Phone Hacking Scandal: Former Editor Brooks Arrested, Scotland Yard Head Stephenson Resigns (Time.com)
When News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch landed in Britain a week ago, July 10, as the phone hacking scandal began to engulf his media empire, he gave a surprising, revealing and some said insensitive answer to the question of what his priority was. Turning to his right-hand woman, Rebekah Brooks, and placing his hand on her arm, he declared: "This one". So far, in that respect and all others, Murdoch hasn't been very successful at damage control. Five days after he uttered those two words, Brooks quit her job as Chief Executive of Murdoch's UK operation, News International, and on Sunday, she was arrested on suspicion of phone hacking and corruption.
Later on the same day, London police commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson abruptly resigned amid claims that Scotland Yard itself had been involved in the the hacking scandal Sir Paul has denied any wrongdoing, and in a press conference Sunday he said his position was "in danger of being eclipsed by the ongoing debate by senior officers and the media. And this can never be right." In fact, on the very same day that Brooks was being arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police and hours before Sir Paul stepped down, the Sunday Times, one of Murdoch's stable of newspapers, reported on its front page that the commissioner had accepted 12,000 pounds worth of accommodation and meals at a health spa while he was recovering from an operation earlier this year.
The spa, Champneys, just happened to employ former News of the World deputy editor Neil Wallis in a PR role at the time, the same man Sir Paul had employed on a part time basis between October 2009, four months after he left the News of the World, and September 2010. Wallis was arrested on July 14 in connection with the hacking investigation, and later released on bail. Both Champneys and the police have insisted the services were provided because the manager of the spa was a personal friend of Sir Paul's and that the commissioner had not been aware that Wallis had worked for the company.
But that will do little to calm the speculation surrounding Scotland Yard's role in the hacking scandal, especially after Sir Paul's resignation. On Monday the British Home Secretary, Theresa May, is to make a statement to parliament expressing her concerns over the Met's decision to employ Wallis. (See pictures of the life of Murdoch.)
Politicians on all sides, including London mayor Boris Johnson, praised Sir Paul for doing the "honourable" thing in resigning his post for events he insists he was unaware of, but which happened on his watch, and insisted he had done a good job running the capital city's police force.
But the opposition Labour party said his decision was in sharp contrast to the behaviour of prime minister David Cameron, who continued to employ former editor of the News of the World, Andy Coulson, as his communications chief in Downing Street despite the fact Coulson had previously resigned his editorship of the paper over the hacking affair, although he continued to insist he knew nothing of the wrongdoing.
Coulson eventually resigned from Downing Street in January as the scandal refused to die down, but there have been persistent claims Mr Cameron and his senior aides were warned not to employ him. As a result, this scandal has already battered the prime minister's reputation and will continue to do so, with the Labour party demanding a full explanation from him of the circumstances surrounding his employment of and friendship with Coulson.
Meanwhile, the scandal continued to escalate in the U.S., where Dow Jones CEO and Wall Street Journal publisher Les Hinton, a longtime Murdoch lieutenant who ran News International from 1995 to 2007, resigned on Friday. The newest allegations were that actor Jude Law and his assistant had their phones hacked by the News of the World in New York in 2003. If true, that could amount to the first such instance in the U.S., where some have already accused the same paper of hacking the phones of 9/11 victims or their families, charges the FBI is reportedly investigating.
In the longer term, there are growing signs that Murdoch's media empire in Britain may not be able to survive the scandal intact, even after its closing of the News of the World. Opposition Labour leader Ed Miliband suggested on Sunday that Murdoch had an "unhealthy" share of the media and called for new rules limiting ownership by one company. Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg later backed the suggestion.

UFC 133 conference call: Evans was going to fight anyone put in front of him; Even Leben and Sonnen called to fill in
The UFC held an impromptu teleconference this morning to discuss the big change at the top of the UFC 133 card in Philadelphia on Aug. 6. After some headaches, Phil Davis is out, Tito Ortiz is in. Rashad Evans and Ortiz met back in 2007 at UFC 73. The fight ended in a draw.
Cage Potato blogged the call and had these interesting notes:
- The UFC found out last week that Davis' knee was injured, but were awaiting MRI results to see if he could fight.
- Machida agreed to the fight, then his?management later proceeded to ask for "Anderson Silva money," but Dana said when he accomplishes what Anderson has in his career, he'll be paid the same money he is paid.
Note: During a Yahoo! Sports' video discussion of the Ortiz-Davis-Machida-Dana-Evans sage, Kevin Iole said "Silva money" is somewhere in the seven-figure range.
- Tito stepped up and took the fight at the same monetary terms of his contract. Dana says that the UFC signed the deal with Tito a long time ago and that they didn't renegotiate his contract for the last fight because they figured he would lose against Bader and it would be his last fight.
Note: Ortiz made a base salary of $450,000 for his fight at UFC 132.
- Rashad is definitely the next in line, but Dana is still sore over him sitting out waiting for Shogun and if Tito beats Rashad he is in title contention.
- Rashad told them to get any opponent they can and not to bother calling him for approval because he would fight anyone who accepted the bout.
- Machida's relationship with the UFC could be strained because of his contract demands. White pointed out that Lyoto was begging him to get back into the cage to fight and he said "he had his chance."
- Bringing in a 205?er from Strikeforce didn't cross White's mind because in his words "Who would I have brought in?"
- Middleweights Chris Leben and Chael Sonnen both texted Dana to offer to fight Rashad.

What Keeps A Person Sane
The person who created Sims is so brilliant. I've been playing Sims for years now, and I just understood the significance of sanity in the game and in real life. It is the same thing. A person has lots of wants and needs but he can't get all they want. In the game, if the sim didn't fulfill some of his wants and needs, he'll end up in the mental institution. It's the same thing in real life. Now I wanted to share information about what keeps a person sane, how you would know if a person is insane, how to detect if someone is becoming insane because a lot of people take this things for granted.
So what keeps a person sane? First let's keep it simple. Wants and Needs keep a person sane. But right now, I'll focus on the most important thing a person needs. Like how really important it is for a person to have his needs fulfilled.
There are 4 classes of Deficiency needs:
1) Physiological, Physical, or Survival Needs (such as food, sex, sleep, etc.)
2) Safety Needs (Need for Security)
3) Belongingness and Love Needs (Need for friends and acquaintances)
4) Esteem Needs (Self-Respect)
Next is 3 classes of Growth needs
1) The need for self-actualization (Fulfilling ones potentialities)
2) Desire to know and understand (The cognitive impulse)
3) Aesthetic Needs (Beauty and Harmony in life)
Alright, now those are the needs that should be fulfilled in a person's life at the right time. The deficiency needs should be accomplish first before growth needs. Because by meeting those needs, it reduces psychological tension and restore our equilibrium (homeostasis), but the tension experienced in growth needs seems to add to the zest of life.. In English, it means it reduces the risk of the person of having psychological problems in the future. (Colliers Encyclopedia, Humanistic Theories of Personality 19-469)
The growth needs are also important. Why? It is the criterion for Mental Health. It is very important to fulfill the needs of a person especially when he is still young. Why? Before establishing adult identity, childhood conflicts will come back. It is a second attempt to master conflicts over childhood drives. If this is not resolved, child remains vulnerable to psychopathology. So for example if some deficiency and growth needs are not fulfilled in a person's life. Then you are screwed. It is either you are living your life mentally ill for years. It will take a matter of time until he snaps or finally loses control. Depending on the needs that he lack, it's just two things. He'll either hurt someone or himself.
Here are some things that could help monitor if parent has raised his child right. So we can tell that this person will grow mentally and psychologically well.
Erik Erikson 8 stages of development
- Trust vs. Mistrust - learns to love & be loved.
- Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt - learns independence
- Initiative vs. Guilt - learns basic problem solving
- Industry vs. Inferiority - learns how to do things well
- Identity vs. Role confusion - learns who he/she is and adjusts to body image
- Intimacy vs. Isolation
- Generativity vs. Stagnation
- Integrity vs. Despair
Sources of maladaptive mechanism according to Erik Erikson's 8 stages of development
- unreliable provision of basic needs of caregiver.
- over controlling, neglecting/ rejecting parents or caregiver.
- failure to develop trust and self-esteem
- poor self-esteem
- peer pressure, divorce, lack of empathy, inconsistencies
- lack of validation from early caregivers
- Divorce, Emptiness syndrome, Menopause, and retirement
- Death
Now if anyone of you has experience anything from the maladaptive mechanisms, then you are at risk for mental, and psychological disorders. Because you are vulnerable to being sick doesn't mean you can't do something about it. Since a child rarely speaks and I am sure you won't hear a child saying "I have a problem. I am experiencing this and that and its affecting me too much. I encourage parents to give time to listen to their child has to say. If you can't do that then you can't assure him anything. Even if you try assuring him, your child won't believe you because he doesn't trust you. There are children who speak about their problems but they get ignored, and misunderstood. Parents now don't understand what the importance of some things to their child's life no matter how small it is. Because they are the adults, their way is always the better one.
The way a child is raise can also affect how he is going to develop in the future. The importance of infantile experience for certain personal characteristics has been confirmed by studying the childrearing methods of various primitive cultures. Typical adult personalities are aggressive and acquisitive; infants are submitted to considerate nursing frustration and given little affection and attention. Where the typical adult personalities are friendly and properties are willingly shared, infants are nursed when they wish and as long as they wish and are given ample evidences of continuous affection. To a grown up, if he has experiences any of the maladaptive mechanisms or let's say there are problems that affects them so much, that is where interpersonal relationship comes in, friends, parents, and spouses that's what they do in a person's life. They help them get through those hardships in life. They give them complete assurance, comfort, and hold them at their weakest. So a person shouldn't go through problems, or hardships in life alone, no matter how petty or pathetic it is they always need someone. An independent person can solve his problems alone but what if that person becomes vulnerable. Do you really think, he will still have a clear, level head to make the right decisions? If he didn't make the right decisions, that is where things in their life tries to fall apart.
A person who loses it does different things. They could regress to childhood behavior. An example of that is a person who has outgrown his favorite toy and starts to play it again. Why? because when his young, playing that toy makes him happy. Some people cry in a fetal position. The fetal position itself indicates that his vulnerable and he needs to be nurture, to be held by anyone who can provide him comfort and assurance.
You know in the past I got tired of men hating whiny talkative women, because they don't understand why women do that. Women do that to cope from frustrations. They tell their girlfriends a story or a problem that had arise at home, in school, or in workplace. Then they tell them how it is affecting them and how much they hate some thing or they show you how mad or angry they are. Before I could almost hate my best friend because I thought, she is projecting her anger on me. Which she is but she is not doing it intentionally. It is her defense mechanism, which is called displacement to be able to cope with her frustration.
Defense mechanisms are thought to safeguard the mind against feelings and thoughts that are too difficult for the conscious mind to cope with. In some instances, defense mechanisms are thought to keep inappropriate or unwanted thoughts and impulses from entering the conscious mind. (What Is a Defense Mechanism? There are a lot of defense mechanisms that could explain a person's behavior. Every one can be mentally ill in a moment of their life once they've have use defense mechanisms in their everyday life. Actually defense mechanisms are normal but once you use them too often, they become unhealthy for the person using it. Few of them are commonly known such as denial the failure to accept unpleasant reality, projection outward/attributing ones thoughts, feelings and failures toward others, introjection is blaming self, rationalization is justifying behavior by magnifying a resume that is publicly acceptable, intellectualization is using logical explanation to painful event, repression is unconscious forgetting, regression is going back to an earlier stage of development such as sleeping in fetal position, displacement is taking anger or transferring feelings to a safer object, person, or situation, resistance instinctive opposition to criticism, withdrawal is pathologically isolating self from others, and fantasy dwelling into ones imagination. Excessive imagination may lead to delusion of grandeur. So be careful not to fantasize a lot. It will hurt you. Remember that person who uses introjection as a defense mechanism has suicidal tendencies due to depression.
That is why it is important for a person to have someone who will care for him no matter what. One person could provide everything. I really believe in that. But it's nicer if a child's parents would provide him all of that. So he will grow up the right way and with a right mind.
