I play as a goalie in New England Womens Hockey League. I love the excitement, teamwork and exercise. But I needed better goalie training and that is why I wrote this article.
Let?s face it?if you are a goalie on a hockey team you need to be the best that you can be. The game and your team completely rely on you. You are the one thing that stands between victory or defeat, so your performance needs to be top notch. But the problem I kept finding when I was looking for goalie training was that there really wasn?t any.
Most training seemed to be focused on every other position on the ice, ignoring the critical position of goalie. What I wanted was training that was designed to benefit me in my exact position?goalie. I was working out with a trainer, but doing that was leaving me less flexible and it was showing in my game. It also wasn?t giving me the stamina to keep me strong and aggressive until the end of the game.
Then I found Maria Mountain and her Ultimate Goalie Training System. I picked it up and was happy to find a system that was tailored to being a goalie. It included a 12 week calendar that made it easy to follow. And the training itself was specific with a focus on improving saves and working on maximum flexibility. There was training that helped me work on my lateral moves even when I wasn?t on the ice. In fact, the great thing I discovered was that many of the techniques didn?t require being on the ice. This was a huge thing for me as it meant I could use time at home or the gym to improve my skating and my overall stamina.
So, I recommend checking out this system. I love the fact that it speaks directly to me as a goalie. I don?t feel as this system just an after thought or too generic. I would love to train with Maria one on one, but until that dream happens, this system is the next best thing!
