CHICAGO?
Mayor Rahm Emanuel wants an outside audit of the company responsible for the parking meters that many Chicagoans have come to loathe. The mayor wants to ensure the company's revenue collections match the number of meters around the city. 50 million?dollars is now under dispute.
The mayor inherited a 75 year 1.15 billion dollar lease with Chicago Parking Meters LLC that the city council okayed in 2008 under Mayor Daley. There doesn't appear to be much he can do to break the lease, but the mayor says he does have the power to look at the dollars and cents.
The administration stopped payment this summer on more than $14 million dollars the company says its owed for out of service spots.
The majority of those who have to pay these meters seem to think the more scrutiny, the better.
