CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Hundreds turned out for a local job fair Thursday hosted by Food Lion.?
The event runs through 6 p.m. at the Hilton in the university area.? Interested applicants who showed up were from all walks of life, but had one common goal: to get a a job.
The Salisbury based grocery chain looks to fill several positions including managers and department associates.? They hope to employ the very folks that shop in their stores.??
"We think that the greatest opportunity that Charlotte has is to allow the individual that live in Charlotte to be a part of our teams," said district manager Wayne TerVeen.?
Those people were out in full force Thursday, possibly a sign of the times.? Jarell Lindsey said he's been looking for a job for the last three months.?
"It's hard.? It's a struggle," he said.?
Jarell blames the economy, but is still putting his best foot forward.? He said he applies constantly online.?
Jarell joins others like Evan Perez who already holds a part-time job.? Since moving to Charlotte, he says he hasn't had trouble.??
"Everybody says it's the economy, but it's in all how you make it," he said.?
Evan doesn't hold a degree, but something else: "I just got a bunch of work experience.? So, I'm just going to keep on going on the Internet looking for job.? You can find it."?
That drive is exactly what Food Lion says they're looking for.?
"We're looking for individuals that have a high desire to be a part of people, hat have a desire to work in a grocery store environment," said TerVeen.
