The Government of Antigua and Barbuda will reduce the Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax (ABST) rate from 15% to 5%, on Saturday, December 15 and on Sunday, December 16.
The reduction will apply to all types of goods sold in Antigua and Barbuda during the period, from 12:01 am on December, 15, 2012 to midnight on December 16, 2012.
The decision follows consultations with the business community and technicians in the Ministry of Finance, the Economy, and Public Administration. The aim is to provide a boost to the local business community, particularly for the Christmas season, Minister of Finance Harold Lovell said.
?In an effort to provide a stimulus to the local business community, while at the same time expressing a heartfelt thank you to the citizens of Antigua and Barbuda for their support and patience, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda has agreed to this initiative,? Minister Lovell said.
All citizens and residents are encouraged to avail of this opportunity to shop locally for all their holiday supplies and gifts, and to save while they shop.
