ITANAGAR, Aug 24: While reiterating his commitment to bring State?s sports sector on national horizon, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has expressed his satisfaction on the successful completion of the maiden edition of Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Open Badminton Championship (DKMSOBC) and said that a series of initiatives taken by the state govt, including the State Sports Policy would hopefully make Arunachal Pradesh a formidable state in sports arena in the country in days to come.
Tuki, the chief guest, who was addressing the valedictory function of the tournament here today, announced that from next year onward the State govt will take over the tournament and facilitate its conduct through the Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA).
While assure to place sufficient funds for construction of one more badminton club with at least two courts, he said, ?This will pave way to smooth conduct of the tournament as well as provide additional courts for our players to hone their skills.?
Terming badminton as a wonderful game of stamina, zest and intelligence, the CM said, ?Besides offering entertainment, recreation and physical exercise, it imbibes in us important human qualities like discipline and team work.?
While recalling the contributions made by former Chief Minister late Dorjee Khanduji toward lifting Arunachal on sports front, he said, ?He did all that was possible for upliftment of the game as well as young players.
I can bet that many players here today have excelled due to his constant encouragement and guidance. This tournament in his memory is indeed a befitting tribute to the great ambassador of the game.?
On his govt?s vision to make Arunachal a leading state on sports front, Tuki said, ?Our main vision is to make Arunachal Pradesh a leading state in sports through target oriented action plans for diverse activities including coaching, training, counseling and participation at various levels of tournaments and championships of all sports disciplines.?
He disclosed that our aim is that by the year 2030 all basic pre-requisite needs of infrastructure and necessary technical back-up for development of sports and youth activities will be fulfilled across the state. ?Besides creation of infrastructure and technical back-up, we will also provide maximum opportunities and benefits to indigenous youths, he said adding a pension scheme for welfare of distressed sports persons has also been incorporated while special focus would be laid on promotion of sports amongst girls and the physically challenged.
While hailing all the winners of the maiden Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Open Badminton Championship, he also lauded all the participants who could not win a medal saying ?I believe that winning or losing is secondary. The will to participate and emerge a formidable competitor also deserves appreciation.?
He also appreciated the organizers, the people behind the successful conduction of this championship.
